A Little About Me.
In my seven years on the board I have been know for my
research on topic, my fair decision making, and my passion for
technology. I have given 497 hours toward my work on the board in the last
year alone and find my work on the board to be very rewarding. Have there
been tough issues to address? Yes, and there will be many more. With
issues before the board right now that included hiring a new superintendent,
the possibility of realigning attendance zones, and the future of our high
school we need seasoned board members who know
how the district works and are ready to put in the time it takes to
research the topic, gather community and teacher input and make sound
decisions. I am ready, today, to take on the challenges the board presents.
I am a mother of three, one
in elementary, one in middle school and our oldest is a junior at the
UofA. My husband Eric is
employed by Motorola, Corp in Bentonville.
With my husband’s encouragement and after 15 years of work there, I
resigned from IBM to raise our children and pursue the school board
position. I was born and raised in Fayetteville. FHS is my alma mater
along with five members of my family, two more
will follow in the next few years. Father was “Coach Winborn” to many
long-time Fayetteville residents. He was also the first Principal of
Woodland Junior High and Assistant Superintendent of Finance for
Fayetteville Public Schools. My mother established and
still runs her own real estate business in town.
Working for a technology company exposed me to the
power of technology and the value it can have in teaching. My work on the
board has been highlighted by the support of
technology infusion in our classrooms. I have supported projects that
narrowed the computer-to-student ratio in the classroom to 3 to1, provided
each classroom with “intelligent classroom” equipment
which included projectors, screens, and multimedia speakers. To
start this process all teachers were provided
laptop computers in 2004. We are ready now to define how we will approach a
21st Century Education for our students at all levels of
instruction at Fayetteville Public Schools. We will be leading the state in
this endeavor and will be among some of the strongest and most progressive
public school districts in the country.
